Record Review - Les Terribles

LES TERRIBLES
Quelque chose comme ça

This is the third long player by these French garage rockers and it is, to my ears, their strongest yet. As usual it’s a good mix of Gaelic covers and originals. In the case of ‘La Fermeture Éclair’, it’s their cover of a French ’60s cover of the American original ‘In The Past’ by We The People!

Ronnie Bird’s old warhorse ‘C’est Fini’ also makes an appearance. Having a female lead singer on it provides a refreshing change. What I take to be the originals are all strong and robust. For instance, ‘Daddy Longues Pattes’ is a tight, forceful blast, whilst ‘Jivaros’ is a spooky Cramps-like feeler and ‘Ton Nom’ starts all Dune Eddy but quickly runs away into an R&B wig-out.

All 12 tunes have good cohesion and above all they’re fun and that’s what this kind of record should always be. A great party record – play loud!
